Resources for the Inter-culture in school

What?

School is an ideal place for the experimentation of innovative approaches and perhaps the principle location to promote the best coexistence among people. The project Resources for the Inter-culture in Schools, set in motion various years ago by Africa e Mediterraneo in the District of Pianura Est, is designed to facilitate the integration of non-Italian speaking pupils into the school institutions in Italy.

The project wishes to support the scholastic world in its management of the multi-ethnical situation of the school population in order to find the most appropriate methods to offer new arrivals an adequate right to an education and equal opportunities for educational success for all students.

Come?

The promotion of a culture of dialogue and an educational and intercultural approach are among the priorities of the Africa e Mediterraneo association and this is particularly noticeable with the project Resources for the Inter-culture in schools.

From the activity carried out in the collaboration with Lai-momo cooperative society in 15 municipalities of the Pianura Est district in the Province of Bologna, the project “Resources for the Inter-culture in schools” is directed at all including institutes, educational departments and high schools in the area. The project wishes to uniform the methods of intervention in the field of inter-culture, making them coherent with the district’s politics concerning parenthood and childhood, socio-sanitarian action, social and vocational orientation projects and relations with associations.

This has meant finding common strategies in order to make a structurally functional method of meeting, confrontation and reinforcement of the proficiency of the so-called “instrumental workings” of the schools in the district, by putting them in contact with each other, circulating information and experiences and sharing the best practices. In this way the best practises, the materials created and the solutions, studied, shared and tested together can become true and real assets of the area. This has been made possible through the training of a group of trainers who have become active figures in the promotion of the practises and projects in an intercultural framework, within their IC. The consolidation of a group of teachers specializing in these issues and making them available to the local area may be the only possible way, in the future, to meet the need to respond to the changes that are constantly affecting the world of education. Among the various activities bought forward we note in particular:

  • animation of the education representatives of the area and the building of a database of best practises and useful materials;
  • Expert advice and training for teachers through seminars on workshop-based teaching in order to facilitate the teaching of their discipline in multicultural classes;
  • A package of expertise advice for analysis and planning of events for specific cases available to schools throughout the scholastic year.
